I ran across an article today by Gina Serpe and I have to admit the picture is what caught my attention (To read the actual article, click here).  Surely Gatorade wouldn't have made a "Haterade" refreshment line, so what is the deal?  Well, as I read the article, this was actually a stunt pulled by an individual.  "Kay told KUSA that with the help of an artist pal—one who had the good sense to remain anonymous—he planted 1,000 of the bottles across the state for the simple purpose of creating conversation."  I think he accomplished his goal... along with mounting legal concerns and pending lawsuits with the FDA and Gatorade.

You have to ask yourself, did he really accomplish his goal and if so, at what cost?  When you are promoting your primary business (whatever it is), you must always be consious of the facts you are claiming and the promises you are making.  I'm sure you have seen people make radical claims about their products - "Take this pill and it will cure all cancers", etc... I'm sure you have been approached many times with "get rich quick" schemes promising 6-figure incomes by "only invest X amount of dollars and never having to work more than 4 hours a week..."  All the while having people justify their claims and promises with the fact that yes, it does get people talking; and sometimes it even gets them signed up in your company for a month or two.  At least until they figure out that it really wasn't ALL cancers and that only 5% of those in the business ever see even a 5-Figure profit.  So is it worth it to make such claims?

As a network marketer, you are in business.  And like all businesses, there are those who strive to bring benefit to those they are working with; and there are those who are quickly out for a quick buck.  Make the decision today to be in the first group.  This does not mean you will never make any money - in fact, it will be quite the opposite.  By maintaining your integrity, you will begin to establish a trust with those you present to.  People are not idiots and they have all seen vaious forms of false advertising - they will see through your fantastic claims very quickly.  So what do you do if your product really is the best thing since sliced bread?

Give testimonies but always remember to let people know that each person is different.  Lay out the facts, let them know that you will be with them every step of the way, but always end your conversations with "I don't know if it will work for you or if this will be something that will be a fit - but it has been for me and I think you should at least give it a try!"

Start conversations today but make sure they are the kind of conversations you can be proud of!
